We're now hours from one of the biggest fights in the history of the middleweight division as Anderson Silva will put his UFC middleweight belt on the line against former light heavyweight champ Vitor Belfort. Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort hit the marks for their UFC 126 middleweight title bout tomorrow night in Las Vegas, and then nearly came to blows during a staredown.

In response to remarks Belfort made about Silva "wearing a mask" as a fighter, the champion did just that, donning a plain white mask and going nose-to-nose with Belfort. The two exchanged words and had to be held back by their cornermen before being separated.

All fighters successfully made weight with the exception of Mike Pierce, who weighed in one pound over the welterweight limit. Video of the weigh-ins are after the jump.

The topic of a dream fight between longtime UFC champions Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre has long been discussed and debated by fans of the sport. UFC President Dana White, intially against the idea, has softened his stance in recent years, but never before has the fight been targeted by the organization, until now.

As first reported by MMAFighting.com, White informed those in attendance at Friday's Q&A session with troops stationed at Fort Hood, TX that wins by both Silva and St. Pierre in their upcoming fights could result in the two being matched up against each other later this year.

"After he wins that fight, then Georges St. Pierre needs to beat Jake Shields in Toronto and if that happens, then we're probably going to do that fight," White said. "So if they both win, that fight makes all the sense in the world."

But according to UFC President Dana White, Belfort may have positioned himself as the leading candidate for Silva’s next title defense, even before Dan Henderson and Nate Marquardt.

“You know, I think he might be ready now,” White said at last night’s UFC 103 post-fight press conference.

Quote of the Day: Wanderlei Silva Wants to Bet Anderson on Franklin Fight

Wanderlei Silva. Photo property of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“I go to knock him out. I have trained so much and Rich won’t last two rounds. I think it is good Anderson has been preparing him. I hope he is also on the corner. I want to dare him to bet $50,000. I put these amount and Anderson or his sponsors, Ed Soares or Joinha, bet another part. Who wins takes the money.”

Longtime PRIDE middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva tells Fighters Only Magazine that would be willing to bet former training partner Anderson Silva that he will be victorious within two rounds in his catch-weight bout against Rich Franklin at UFC 99 on June 13.

It looks like the war of words between the two Brazilians isn’t going to be ending anytime soon.
