UFC Targeting JDS-Overeem, Potential Silva-Sonnen Rematch for Summer

UFC President Dana White has revealed that his organization is currently looking at summer dates for a UFC heavyweight title showdown between champion Junior dos Santos and challenger Alistair Overeem as well as a potential rematch between longtime middleweight king Anderson Silva and bitter rival Chael Sonnen.

The UFC's head honcho commented on the matchups during last night's premiere episode of "UFC Tonight" on FUEL TV. According to White, the UFC is looking at holding the heavyweight title fight at some point in the summer. If Sonnen were to get past Mark Munoz at UFC on Fox 2 later this month, the same could be said for the middleweight division's biggest grudge match.

"Hopefully, this summer. This summer is probably when it's going to go down," White said of dos Santos and Overeem. "Alistair wants to take some time off. Junior is ready but needs to get some training in. So hopefully, this summer."

KO of the Year: Silva vs. Belfort

On February 5, 2011, Anderson Silva was supposed to have met his match.

A fellow Brazilian that was an explosive striker with knockout power, potentially faster on the feet, and a black belt in jiu-jitsu, Vitor Belfort posed the biggest threat that Silva had seen in a long time. Chael Sonnen would argue that, but we're talking about on pre-fight paper here.

It only took "The Spider" three and a half minute to put a stop to the hype.

Video: UFC 134 Extended Preview

Here's an extended preview of the UFC's return to Brazil next Saturday for UFC 134, which takes place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro and is headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout between reigning champion Anderson Silva and the last man to hand him a loss, number one contender Yushin Okami.

GSP Uneasy About Move to Middleweight

Caught up in the hustle and bustle of the top three MMA organizations in North America all holding events in a three-day span was a story that didn't receive the amount of attention that it should have.

Following Diego Sanchez's controversial win over Martin Kampmann on Thursday, UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre joined the crew of the UFC on Versus III's post-fight show.

Naturally, St. Pierre was asked about a planned superfight between him and Anderson Silva if he were to defeat Jake Shields at UFC 129 on April 30. His reaction was surprising.

St Pierre Not Thinking About Silva Showdown

If you ask Anderson Silva about potentially fighting Georges St. Pierre, he'll tell you that he thinks it's a fun fight. If you ask St. Pierre, he won't have much of an answer for you.

The UFC's reigning welterweight champion was asked about the prospect of fighting Silva during a press conference to promote UFC 129 today, and responded swiftly - it's not on his mind.

"I don't think about it. I've never thought about it," St. Pierre said of a fight against Silva. "I always live in the present moment. It would be foolish for me to look past Jake Shields. He's the biggest threat to my title right now. He's a very well-rounded fighter and I'm glad the UFC brought him because he's the top contender for the welterweight title.

Anderson Silva lived up to his end of the bargain. Now the pressure is on Georges St. Pierre.

With a highlight-reel win over Vitor Belfort, UFC President Dana White reminded the media on Saturday that Anderson Silva will meet Georges St. Pierre in a superfight later this year, provided that St. Pierre gets past Jake Shields at UFC 129 in April.

"If St. Pierre wins, him and Silva is the fight we will do," White said. "Georges has said that if he beats Jake Shields, he'll take the fight and Anderson wants it too."
