Former PRIDE Fighting Championships standout Denis Kang could make his UFC debut against fellow middleweight Alan Belcher when the organizations travels to Dublin, Ireland for UFC 93 on January 17.

MMA on Tap was able to confirm the bout with a member of Belcher’s camp. Bout agreements have been distributed and Belcher has agreed to fight Kang, but is still waiting for the Canadian’s response to the proposed bout.

Since departing from PRIDE over two years ago, Kang has put together a 3-2 record, including two successful defenses of his Spirit MC heavyweight title. Kang most recently scored a quick first-round TKO of Marvin Eastman at Raw Combat’s “Resurrection” event on October 25.

Belcher has won two out of his last three UFC bouts after signing a four-fight extension with the promotion last fall. In 2008, Belcher bounced back from an upset loss to Jason Day at UFC 83 to win a razor-close split decision over Ed Herman at UFC Fight Night 15 in September.

Report: Two Bouts Set for UFC Fight Night 14

Houston Alexander. Photo property of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

A pair of fights between a quartet of fighters desperately seeking a win have reportedly been signed for the yet-to-be-announced UFC Fight Night 14 on September 17th.

Hard-hitting light heavyweight upstart Houston Alexander will return to action against Eric Schafer, who took the first half of this year as an opportunity to fight in smaller shows and bounce back from recent losses in the UFC according to our friends at MMA Junkie.

After surprising many in winning his first two UFC fights in dominant fashion, Alexander has lost his last two bouts. He most recently was the victim of a first-round knockout at the hands of James Irvin, just eight seconds into the fight. Irvin’s knockout tied the UFC record for the organization’s fastest finish in history.

Schafer picked up a pair of victories in separate Gladiators Fighting Series shows earlier this year. He bursted onto the UFC scene with an impressive submission win over Rob MacDonald but has since dropped his last two bouts in the Octagon, losing to Michael Bisping and Stephan Bonnar respectively.

Exciting middleweights Ed Herman and Alan Belcher will also reportedly collide at the event according to MMA Mania.

After dropping his first two UFC bouts, Herman went on to rack up three straight victories, including an impressive knockout of veteran Joe Doerksen, before ultimately being defeated by submission expert Demian Maia last month. Belcher snapped a two-fight winning streak in losing to Canadian newcomer Jason Day in April, lowering the Biloxi, Mississippi native to an even .500 record inside the confines of the UFC.

The event is expected to precede the debut of the upcoming eighth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” on Spike TV.

Hometown Hero: St. Pierre Stops Serra in Montreal

Georges St. Pierre. Photo property of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

One year removed from his original upset loss to Matt Serra, Georges St. Pierre was finally able to avenge the defeat, dominating Serra on the mat over two rounds en route to regaining his UFC welterweight title in UFC 83’s historic main event.

The raucous crowd packed inside Montreal, Quebec’s Bell Centre saw St. Pierre surprise many in the opening seconds of the fight as he opted to take Serra down. After being on the receiving end of an array of strikes, Serra eventually worked his way back to his feet before finding himself on his back once again.

Any chances for another first-round Serra knockout were spoiled in a big way. With a mouse forming under Serra’s right eye, the Long Island native came out from his corner looking to throw down at the start of the second round. St. Pierre unfortunately had a different idea.

St. Pierre scored yet another early takedown. Serra mounted a bit of offense once the fight hit the feet, connecting with a head kick. However with fatigue setting in, Serra was unable to capitalize, allowing St. Pierre to land a handful of stiff jabs before shooting in for a takedown.

Once on the mat, St. Pierre unleashed a barrage of unanswered punches and knees to the body that forced Serra to cover up and referee Yves Lavigne to ultimately stop the fight, handing St. Pierre the title that he likely should have never lost in the first place.

“My strategy going in was to make it a physical fight,” St. Pierre said in his post-fight interview with Kenny Florian, who filled in for usual color commentator Joe Rogan. “I wanted to make him tired as much as I could because I know have the conditioning. I was trying to mix it up as much as I could.”

Belcher Confirms Fight With Cote at UFC 83

Alan Belcher weighs-in for UFC 77: Hostile Territory. Photo property of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Rising middleweight Alan Belcher will likely return to action as he will take on white-hot Canadian Patrick Cote when the UFC ventures into Canada for the first time in history for UFC 83 on April 19th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.

Belcher confirmed the fight with MMA Junkie earlier today, stating that he had formally accepted the proposed bout.

The Biloxi, Mississippi native, who recently signed a new four-fight deal with the promotion, was originally scheduled to take on Ricardo Almeida this past weekend at UFC 81: Breaking Point but was forced to pull out of the bout after coming down with a severe case of bronchitis.

Belcher shook off a 1-2 start in the UFC and racked up impressive victories over Sean Salmon and Kalib Starnes in consecutive fights earlier last year.

Those that were expecting Cote to be a color commentator at the event received a pleasant surprise when UFC President Dana White announced that “The Predator” would be on the card as well, going up against an opponent yet to be announced.

Cote is coming off an impressive TKO win over fellow heavy-handed striker Drew McFedries at UFC Fight Night 12 last month. After losing his first four fights inside the confines of the UFC, Cote has gone on to win three straight fights and has established himself as one of the top middleweights in the division.
