American Top Team fighter Thiago Alves has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 62 fight against Josh Neer. Alves is suffering from an illness which will not allow him to fight.
The UFC first approached tough welterweight Jake Sheilds but he didn’t feel he’d have enough time to cut weight so instead the UFC opted to go with the very candid Nick Diaz.
Tonight Spike TV will be getting fight fans ready for UFC 62 with two world premiere broadcasts. At 9pm, Spike TV will broadcast the official UFC 62 Countdown Show which will feature an hour of interviews and fight highlights. Then at 10pm tune in to UFC All Access with Renato Sobral. The show will give you a behind the scenes look at a day in the life of Babalu.

Bodog.com’s founder and CEO Calvin Ayre has officially made his venture into the mixed martial arts world. Ayre has announced that he has put together TV’s first mixed martial arts television show.
The show will feature two dozen American fighters who will be featured in head-to-head bouts with a field that will eventually be broken down to seven.
Those seven fighters will then form a U.S. team which will face off against fighters from the Russian Red Devil Sports Club. The Red Devil Sports Club is home to the likes of the Emelianenko brothers, Roman Zentsov, Amar Suloev and many more.
The series will air September 12th on Men’s Network and online at Bodog.tv. The Russia vs. USA card will take place in Los Angeles on November 4th live on pay per view.
Wanderlei Silva has been announced as part of the Pride’s USA debut on October 21st - all signs point towards his bout against Chuck Liddell being all but cancelled. UFC President Dana White has been rumored to be making announcement regarding this and the third fight between Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock at UFC 62 this Saturday.
Yesterday Pride Fighting Championships held a press conference at the Fox Sports Grill in Irvine, California. The press conference featured the announcement of two fights along with the announcement of a many other fighters set to participate in the event.
The two fights that were announced were Mark Coleman versus Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua against Coleman’s teammate Kevin “The Monster” Randleman.
In an unexpected turn of events Pride officials called upon former undisputed heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson. Apparently Tyson and the Japanese promotion have come to some sort of agreement which will feature Tyson fighting in some sort of exhibition match in the future.
Finally it was announced that Pride superstars Josh Barnett, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, Phil Baroni, Kazuyuki Fujita, Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva will participate on the October 21st card.
Dream Stage Entertainment has announced that heavyweight superstar Fedor Emelianenko will face off against UFC and PRIDE tournament champion Mark “The Hammer” Coleman. The fight will be a rematch of their bout in 2004 in which Fedor won by armbar.
Also on the card will be Kevin “The Monster” Randleman versus Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Randleman will be fighting for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury which forced him off of the StrikeForce card. Shogun much like Randleman will be making his return to the ring after suffering a TKO loss to Mark Coleman in which he was left with a severely injured arm.
The folks at BettorMMA.com are reporting that the long awaited rematch between Georges St. Pierre vs. Matt Hughes may be off due to an injury St. Pierre suffered in training.
An Oddessa employee out of Calgary has reported that Georges St. Pierre suffered a serious elbow injury in training and is more than likely out of his UFC 63 Welterweight Title shot against Matt Hughes. The Oddessa source said that there is a 90% chance the fight is off and even if it goes through lines have been affected dramatically due to the serious nature of the injury. Pinnaclesports.com has already taken the fight off the boards and is waiting an official announcement fron the St. Pierre training camp.
Update: Sherdog.com is now reporting that St. Pierre pulled his groin and he’ll know Wensday whether he will be able to fight or not.
The International Fight League has announced the matchups set to take place at the International Fight League World Team Championships in Moline, Illinois on September 23rd. The event will be headlined by a match between mixed martial arts legends and superstars Renzo Gracie and Pat Miletich. Also Gracie’s Pitbulls will battle Miletich’s Silverbacks and Frank Shamrock’s Razor Claws will battle Carlos Newton’s Dragons.
